For today’s Surname Saturday, I’m going to write about one of my maternal lines: Pimental. I have Pimental in my tree a couple of times. This line originates in the Nordeste Municipality of Sao Miguel Island, Azores.
My Great Great Great Grandmother was Rosa Pimental. She was born ca. 1800 in Achada Grande, Nordeste, Sao Miguel Island. She married Jose Francisco de Melo, a native of Achada, Nordeste, on 14 Dec 1827 at N.S. da Annunciacao Church in Achada.
Rosa and Jose’s children were Ana Jacinta (de Melo) Pacheco, Roza de Melo, and Joze de Melo.
Rosa was the daughter of Joze Furtado and Antonia Pimental. Although their children took their Father’s surname, Roza’s surname is passed down through the maternal line.
