Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you have an enjoyable day however you’ve spent it…celebrating, being celebrated, or doing nothing at all.
I was thinking about my mom today. Since she passed away, these special days usually make me reflective.
My mom loved music. She was never really stuck on one type or one era. She loved it all. I suspect I got that trait from her.
I decided to make a playlist of some of the artists and songs I remember her listening to over the years.
Tom Jones, The Oak Ridge Boys, Pitbull, Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Vicki Carr, Bruno Mars, The Three Tenors, Alicia Keys…and especially The Temptations. It was fun to make this connection with her.
As I was listening, I spent some time creating a collage of all the moms in my family tree. As I put it together I thought of their lives, the joys they experienced, the challenges they met. They each had struggles to overcome as we all do.
Some of them dealt with alcoholism in the family, the loss of children, caretaking for a parent or husband, dealing with poverty.
A couple of them packed their bags and followed their husbands half way across the globe in hopes of a better life.
They raised their families as best they could under the circumstances that they lived with.
I’m very grateful for each of the women in my family tree. Without them, there would be no me.
