When I was first handed this photo, I was told “Oh, this is Tony Red and Jennie…some Pacheco or other”. Great…My Grandfather only had 45 Pacheco cousins who made it to adulthood. A whole host of them were name: Antao, Anton, Anthony, Antone, Antonio, and Tony!
I did identify the couple eventually. The couple is Antone “Tony Red” Pacheco and Jennie Perreira. Antone was the son of Joao Pacheco and Joana Gonsalves Cardoza. Jennie is the daughter of Joao Perreira and Maria ???. The woman standing on the left is Antone’s sister, Isabella (Pacheco) Ventura (aka Bella de Braga) and next to her is her husband, Manuel Ventura.
Anthony and Jennie were married in Oakland on the 15 Jun 1929. This was Jennie’s second marriage. She was previously married to Augusto Costa, son of Lariano da Costa and Josephine Souza, ca. 1908. They had 4 children before divorcing around 1920. Anthony and Jennie had one child together.
The couple was married 46 years.
