Today is the day we all give thanks for what we have. I’m thankful for getting through the difficult year after my Dad’s death. This will be our second Thanksgiving since he died and it is definitely a lot easier this time around.
I would like to give thanks for the online genealogy community who exchange information, give guidance, and share their family research adventures with us all. As a disabled person, it is difficult for me to get out to facilities to research or to meet the many people behind so many genealogy endeavors. I’m thankful for the world wide web and the ability to connect with that community even though I cannot be there in person.
I am thankful for the new cousins I have made this year. I am always thankful for the old cousins who continue to help me piece together the mystery that is our family tree.
I am thankful for the many people in the background who transcribe records, create indexes, and put together databases. I am especially thankfully this year for the groups who are putting San Francisco newspapers and mortuary records online. I have learned so much about my San Franciscan ancestors this year because of those efforts.
What are you thankful for this season? I hope the genealogy Gods have blessed you and that you have much to be thankful for this year.
