Are These the Dolans I’ve Been Looking For?

Are These the Dolans I’ve Been Looking For?

If you’re a regular reader of my blog you know that I’m on what seems like a neverending quest to figure out who the Dolan’s in Patrick Dolan’s reinstated probate file were.  The quest has sent me in circles like a crazed character in a Looney Tunes cartoon. A Little Background Patrick Dolan died in 1905.  But, his probate was not settled before the 1906 earthquake and fire in San Francisco.  The probate proceedings were refiled by his niece, Mary…

Thomas Coyne’s Will Settles It

Thomas Coyne’s Will Settles It

In the ongoing drama over who is related to my 3rd great uncle, Patrick Dolan, I have a new puzzle piece.  You may remember from my previous posts  that Patrick’s will was filed in 1906, but lost in the San Francisco earthquake.  It was refiled after the dust settled. I am so tired of you, Margaret Dolan Coyne!

I am so tired of you, Margaret Dolan Coyne!

Do you have that one ancestor or relative who drives you nuts?  I don’t mean those who are still living.  You know, the one who no matter how many databases you search, microfilms you roll through, and indexes you go through, they managed to slip through the cracks.  It appears they went through life and left no trail. About 10 years ago, I got the surprise of my life when I read Patrick Dolan’s reinstated probate file.  Patrick Dolan died in 1905, but his estate was not settled before the 1906 earthquake.  In 1907, the administratix, Mary (Kelly) Meincke, reopened the probate–and a can of worms.  Cousins from Boston came forward to claim their were Patrick’s one and only true heir.  These were cousins I had never heard of. It’s been a painstaking process.  I’ve started with Patrick’s…

More Property Research: The Same House on Guerrero but Different Addresses

More Property Research: The Same House on Guerrero but Different Addresses

One of the best finds so far with the San Francisco Property Information Maps website is finding the houses that Patrick Dolan, my 4th great uncle, owned and lived in. Or, maybe I should say house…more on that later. Patrick Dolan lived at 809 Guerrero from at least 1880 to 1900. When he died in 1905, he was living at 825 Guerrero. From his refiled probate records, I find that he had renters living at 821 and 823 Guerrero. Rent…
