For regular visitors to this blog, you’ve probably noticed my posting and commenting has been spotty at best since September. Part of the reason is I’m rebuilding the Portuguese Hawaiian website, YourIslandRoutes.com. The planning stages took a couple of weeks, the actual work may take a lifetime.
But, that’s not really why I haven’t been posting. It’s these darn Windows 10 updates and my new DSL modem. I had no problems with upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It happened in the background. One day I got a message that it was ready to install. It installed and I haven’t really had problems since.
Then, my DSL modem died. We have slow DSL to begin with. However, I found out whenever an application does an update, my ability to access the internet is next to zero.
My troubles started at the beginning of September when Windows 10 started to download its anniversary update. It failed to download over 5 times, failed to install 3 times, and took almost a month to complete. Every time it reached out to the internet to start another download, I couldn’t access any other websites. I couldn’t send email. No one else could use the internet.
I was relieved when it finished. Then, two days later it there were updates to the updates. UGH!
Since it affects other devices, it’s either let the download happen or work somewhere else.
It appears that things are back to normal. Hopefully, Microsoft doesn’t have any more major updates on the agenda any time soon. Then, I can get back to work.
Thanks for sticking around 🙂
