Hey family historians! We get a month all for ourselves 😀
October is officially Family History Month in the US. The President proclaims this to be the month that we get in touch with our ancestry and heritage. Genealogists accomplish this task on a regular bases. By researching our tree and sharing information, we keep our ancestors alive.
Family History Month is a great time to go beyond research and find ways to make a deeper connection to our heritage. It’s a time to explore different aspects of our heritage besides genealogy research. Though, if you want to research this month go right ahead!
It’s also time to share your heritage with other family members. This is a great time to get the children involved in their family history. Devise games, day trips, and other methods to help them learn about their personal history.
I’ve created a page to help you get started. There are ideas for grown ups to explore their family history and for getting children involved, too. You can visit my cleverly named page at this link: October is Family History Month.
And, for those of you who aren’t into genealogy, you can join in too! October is a great time for those not interested in the research aspect to explore family traditions and share memories.
Have fun this month! If you are going to do something for Family History Month, tell me about it in the comments. Or, blog about it and share the link in the comments section. I’d love to hear the different ways people will be honoring their ancestors this month.
