I came across this today and thought that I would share. It’s a newsreel produced by the US Government promoting the upcoming enumeration of the 1940 US Federal Census.
The newsreel explains the history of the census and why it is important. It then plays on the patriotic duty of all Americans to do what is right and answer the census enumerators’ questions when they come around.
It is interesting to see how they got the word out. Without television or the internet, they would have relied on the cinema, newspapers, and radio to inform people about the upcoming census. It would have been much more difficult to get the word out to each household back in those days.
