In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new kid in town on the social network scene. It’s called GenealogyWise.com and it’s devoted to genealogy.
I saw mention of GenealogyWise.com on Randy Seaver’s Genea-Musings Blog. Because I’m behind on only about 50 projects right now, I had to check it out! Before I knew it, I was creating a profile page and inviting friends.
There have been a couple attempts at genealogy social networking. In my view, the earlier attempts were lacking in one way or another. I think GenealogyWise.com may have figured it out.
The website has a clean format. Everything you want to do is right there and easy to find. It didn’t take me long to set up a profile page–minus the time it took me to choose an appearance (background) that I liked. I can be so picky!
Let’s examine what’s on GenealogyWise.
1. You can have a profile.
2. You can join groups related to your area of research.
3. You can participate in discussion forums
4. You can read blogs.
5. You can watch genealogy related videos.
6. You can join a genealogy chat.
7. You can read up on genealogy news.
8. You can join genealogy discussions on Twitter.
That’s just a taste!
From my first tour, it looks very promising. I agree with Randy in that the network will be useful only when the amount of members reach a certain point.
Why not join up? We can get a contingent of Portuguese, Irish, and French genealogist and take over the network <insert your choice of evil laughter here!> If you join, friend me! I am always looking for possible cousins 🙂
