In this post, I’ll explore John J. Jones, the son of Thomas Augustine and Margaret (Kelly) Jones, and his family. John was born in San Francisco in 1871. He lived there until his death in 1937. He married Matilda “Maud” McCullough.
The Jones Family

This family was a pain in the butt! Finding Jones in San Francisco is like finding a needle in a haystack. Luckily, I knew their address and was able to sort them out that way.
Another problem, John named his son John as well. His son was John B., but I’m not entirely sure who is who after 1925. John Sr. appears in the records first in 1918. His son becomes of voting age in 1922. It’s further complicated by the fact that they all lived together for some years after John B. reached adulthood. Confusing it even further, John J. should have been the father, but notice that John B. is the one who shows retired in 1940. I can only assume the son retired early at the age of 35 since John J. Jones (the father) had been dead for 3 years. Are you confused yet?
Gerald, the oldest son of John J. and Matilda, was much easier to track. He and his wife, Katherine, first lived in San Francisco with Gerald’s parents, then moved on to Fresno, California. I did have a little trouble determining with Gerald was the right one in Fresno. There was also a Gerald E. Jones floating around. Thankfully he did not marry a Katherine and I was able to put him to rest.
Matilda never registered to vote. Also, I did not find any entries for John B. Jones’ wife, Geneviever (Freshette) Jones.
