I have been reading your blog, and I think you have so much good information here! I also have been perusing your website, and also find it very interesting and full of information. I am glad that there are pioneers in Hawaii posting genealogical information online; it provides a good way to dive into genealogy! I am beginning my genealogy search. I have always loved genealogy, but just didn't know how to jump into it beyond my great grandparents. I am also part-Portuguese (some from the Madeira; others I am still searching for), and am finding that I need to do research all over the world!
It is so important to take notes - I am learning that now. I will find something, and save it/copy it, notate source, and then have no idea what I was thinking when I copied it. I created a Word document so that I can type into it, glean what information I can, and note at the bottom what questions I have from the record and what records I can pursue to answer those questions.

De Braga was one of the names in the papers that the lady sent to my mother. She was tracing the family history. The papers were either misplaced or taken by another family member. I would like to get a copy because she had traced back the Azores.
Most of my mother's family still live in the Bay Area.

Jesse, it appears we know the same cousin if you are related to the Bonita's of Oakland! I am your distant cousin through the de Braga line.

Frieda, I don't think there is a connection as my Carneiro's are back a few generation. Though if your friend's roots are from Maia, Sao Miguel Island, then there might be a chance there is a connection further back.

This document looks similar to the one a distant cousin copied for my mother.
My mother was from Oakland. Her maiden name was Medeiros and her mother's
maiden name was Bonita.

I have a childhood friend whose name is Robert L. Carneiro. Does he somehow fit
into your family tree? His bio is on Facebook, but if you have any questions that I might answer, I'd be glad to help.

Newspapers can provide a significant amount of genealogical information. You can find so

much more than birth announcements, marriage announcements and obituaries. See what can be

found in newspapers at <a href="http://www.hiddengenealogynuggets.com/genealogyblog/2012/02/newspaper-genealogy/" rel="nofollow">

Newspapers and Genealogy </a>.
